Suburbanette in the Kitchen: French Baguettes

Mindy Coleman posted this French baguette recipe on her blog a few months ago and it looked so lovely and easy that I wanted to do the exact same thing at home [down to sticking it in a pretty colored colander].

Let me tell you – – it was a big, fat internet fail.  Instead of making four fluffy baguettes, I made three very short, very flat baguettes.  It didn’t matter too much because it was still pretty delicious BUT my dreams of making bread pudding, french toast, and hearty sandwiches were dashed forever this week.

At least I got a pretty picture!

    1. her picture looks the same as yours so i’m pretty sure they are supposed to be flat.

    2. the recipe calls for too little yeast which is why they are flat. every bread recipe i have tells you to put in a whole packet of yeast, or 2 1/4 tsp.

    3. here’s a bunch of different recipes for a loaf of bread that will let you have the french toast, bread pudding & sandwiches. I have only made the sour cream one. (AND IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!!!)
